Wildfires across several provinces in Algeria have killed 12 people and injured 54 others amid prolonged hot, dry weather, authorities said.
Interior Minister Said Saoud said on the evening of August 26 that wildfires in multiple provinces had killed 12 people. A further 54 were burned, with six in serious condition being treated in intensive care.
Photographs taken on August 27 showed scorched hillsides around a village in Jijel province in the northeast. Firefighting and civil protection forces have been deployed across affected areas.
